My Story...
The
Unphotogenic Family...
By: Caitlin
Heinen
It all started on Christmas Eve.
Mom was set on taking a good, unique family Christmas photo. In the last couple
of years, our family photos have been terrifying. Tomorrow is Christmas and mom
needs a family photo to give to the relatives. Every year she gives out a
couple of ideas she has in mind and sees what idea the rest of the family
likes. Most of the time she has an idea she doesn't tell us and that is what we
end up doing. Obviously, in the last couple years, her ideas have not been
good.
This year
mom gave us three ideas. She told us we could do a family picture dressed in Christmas
tree costumes standing outside; we could be wrapped in gold garland holding
bells, or dressed as characters from the Grinch. When mom told us her ideas, we all stood in
silence. None of the ideas sounded appealing to us. All we wanted was a normal
family picture where we line up in normal clothes in front of our Christmas tree,
but no, mom needs something extravagant. After bickering with each other about
different ideas we told mom about, we decided to go with the Grinch characters.
None of us were happy about it, but we knew we had to do it for mom. Mom then
told us she would go shopping for our outfits.
Mom
came back about 3 hours later with the supplies. She started to take out what
she got and it looked like nothing we needed. She took out five big boxes,
wrapping paper, Santa Clause hats, bows for Christmas trees, ect. We asked mom
what all this was. She explained that she changed her idea and we were now
going to be dressed as Christmas presents. This was now worse than the Grinch
characters, and we thought that was bad enough. Mom went to wrap the boxes and
the rest of us sat and talked with each other. We told ourselves that it is
just one picture and we just have to do it for mom. Mom came back with the
finished products and we got dressed.
We all
got dressed and came downstairs to see mom had everything set up. She has us
line up and stagger the way she wanted us, My two younger siblings were in the
front, my dad was in the middle back, and my mom and I each stood on the side
of my dad. Mom went to set the timer on the camera, then quickly ran back to
get in her position. The camera took the picture and we got it over with. The
picture was still very different and none of us enjoyed it, but mom was content
and that’s who we did it for. We brought the picture to the relatives on
Christmas day and they thought it was great! So that was just another unique
family photo for the books, and we could only imagine what the years to come
would look like.

My Poem
The Christmas Phenomenon
Christmas is a sacred holiday
It's a commercial phenomenon
Christmas is
exchanging gifts
decorating Christmas trees
attending church
sharing meals with family and friends
and of course
waiting for Santa Clause
Christmas is
a perfect winter solstice
celebration
~Caitlin
How I made the poem:
I made the poem by first finding an article online and printing it out. I then read the article and highlight key words I thought would be good to use. I then took the words I highlighted and made them in a found poem! I thought making it was pretty easy. The most challenging part I thought was finding the words I want to use and put them in the poem and making sense.

Top 5...
1/11/16
Today we have to blog a Top 5 list of something relating to our blog. I have chosen to do the top 5 worst Christmas gifts.
5) Christmas Ornaments
Today we have to blog a Top 5 list of something relating to our blog. I have chosen to do the top 5 worst Christmas gifts.
5) Christmas Ornaments
I would agree this is a bad gift. They can be meaningful to the person that gives it to the person but, most people expect something more then an ornament. I put this as one of the top five worst gifts because some of the ornaments might not be pretty.
4) Grocery Store Gift Cards
This is also another bad Christmas gift. Like who would want this? Especially if a kid got this... I would give it to my parents to use. Grocery store gift cards for a Christmas gift to me doesn't show much effort. Also if it isn't a larger amount that could get more then one thing, is kind of useless.
3) Underwear
Underwear... oh man! I would definitely not want this as a gift. Think of getting this gift from your grandparents... like no, that would be extremely weird. I would be worried they would get me a super ugly pair that I would have to "pretend" to like!
2) Exercise Equipment
I'm not sure how I feel about this gift. This gift could be saying a lot. I guess it depends on the person who gives you the gift. They could be sending a secret message or I guess just trying to be nice? This is one gift I would be careful about it you receive it! It is definitely a different, weird gift.
1) Lottery Tickets
This could be a really great gift or a really unfortunate gift. Some people give other people gifts just as a generosity gift trying to win them some money. Not many people probably thing they are going to win big, but all could go wrong when you give someone a lottery ticket and they win big! If I ever gave someone a winning lottery ticket I think I would ask for some of the money they won because I gave it to them!

Christmas Vacation Review...
Today I am reviewing one of the most popular movies "Christmas Vacation"
It's Christmas time and the Griswolds are preparing for a family seasonal celebration, but things never run smoothly for Clark, his wife Ellen and their two kids. Clark's continual bad luck is worsened by his obnoxious family guests, but he manages to keep going knowing that his Christmas bonus is due soon. Written by Rob Hartill
This movie is one of my favorites because it is funny and a good movie to watch with your family! There are a couple parts in the movie that are not very well put together and are very exaggerated in the way that they are acted out. All in all it is a great movie meant for many laughs. This movie is rated PG-13 but, I would still definitely recommend this movie for anyone who hasn't seen it. In my opinion it is one movie you just can't not like!
This is my favorite part in Christmas Vacation

Why I chose this topic...
Good afternoon once again bloggers!!
Happy 2016!
Roy L. Smith once said, "He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree."
I like this quote because it states something very true and I think it is something to remember, and it related to my topic today since I am writing about Christmas. There are a few reasons why I decided to create my blog about Christmas. One reason I chose this topic is because Christmas is my favorite holiday and I love all the decorations! Another reason is it is a holiday I look forward to in school because we get such a long break for it! There are many good professional blogs about Christmas, but one I found was http://adebbie-dabblechristmas.blogspot.com/ which is a great, fun blog!
I would give it an award for the layout and I like it for two reasons: All the fun pictures & the variety of things she post that relates to Christmas!
